It all started with a torn ACL — twice, actually.

 

In the midst of recovery, I was selected for the Blitzboks squad. While touring internationally, I was introduced to yerba maté — a drink steeped in South American tradition, known for its grounding energy and mental clarity. I began drinking it before every session and match. It didn’t just give me a boost — it became a ritual. I felt more present, more focused, and more connected to myself and my performance.

 

Even after tearing my ACL again, yerba maté stayed with me. It became a daily practice — a small, powerful moment of consistency and clarity in the midst of change and challenge. It helped me stay energised without the crash, sharp without the jitters, and centred even in recovery.

 

That’s when the idea for Happy Maté was born.

 

I wanted to share this experience , not just the drink, but the ritual. The stillness before a storm. The clarity before a game. The shared sip between friends. Yerba maté isn’t just about energy. It’s about how you start your day, how you move through it, and how you show up for yourself and others.
